Cookies

Cookies are very small text files that a web server places on your computer.

They are used to identify you when you are using the web site. Some people do not like cookies because they can be used to track activity over the Internet.

The cookie that is used by the IS-DB web server is a "session" cookie; this only lasts whilst your browser window remains open. As soon as the window is closed, the cookie is deleted. Once you have closed your web browser, it cannot be used to track your activity outside of the IS-DB web site.

It may be that your browsing software is set up to disallow the placing of cookies. If this is the case, you will not be able to use parts of the IS-DB web site until you change your settings.

Fortunately, this is very easy.

If you have difficulties, our Hotline staff will be pleased to help.

Instructions for enabling cookies on popular web browsers are given below.

If your browser is not listed, or is an old version, consult the Help files for the browser or visit the browser publisher’s web site.

If you do not wish to accept cookies from the IS-DB web site, you are perfectly entitled to do so, however, you may not be able to access the parts of the site associated with spectral deposition and viewing. The cookie is automatically deleted once you close your browser window.

Further information is available by searching for "cookies" from the Internet Explorer Help system.

Netscape

In Netscape you can manage Cookies through Preferences (Edit > Preferences). You will need to ensure that you enable cookies. Select "Enable cookies for the originating web site only", see below.

Once you have done this, the first time you visit the IS-DB you will be prompted to allow the IS-DB web site to set a cookie:

Click yes; if you check the "Remember this decision", you won’t have to do this again. If you have selected the wrong option, or wish to change the way cookies are handled, you go to the Tasks menu > Privacy and Security > Cookie Manager to change settings.
